Safeguarding children and vulnerable adults is now recognised as part of ecclesial, Sunday school, CYC, camp and Bible/Youth weekend committee responsibilities. The vast majority of ecclesias / committees now have processes and policies in place for dealing with these responsibilities. We recognise some are still very new to this and that it’s not an easy / simple topic for anyone.
Many of those involved with youth work have already DBS checks in place and registered with the online update service through Government’s Disclosure and Barring Service. Again a few are new to this and a number still to take this up.
Having effective policy and procedures are just the start: the delivery of any activities will involve regular documented training of both youth workers and specifically of the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
The CSN is keen to be able to support ecclesias and committees in this complex area and are pleased to be able to offer a further training day for DSLs and others who wish to become more aware of their safeguarding responsibilities. The aim of the day is to:

  • provide an update on Safeguarding Guidance for children and vulnerable adults
  • explain the role and responsibilities of the Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • understand the expectations and consider “good practice” for those working with children, young people and vulnerable adults and
  • provide an opportunity to network, share experiences and have questions answered

A CSN certificate of training will be provided for those who attend.
